CHENNAI DAY- HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHENNAI

How many of you know that today is Chennai's Birthday?
Yes, this was the day when Chennai was formed by the invaders from other countries..
Chennai is more than 360 years old and all through these years it has undergone innumerable changes.
The most remarkable one is the change of its name from MADRAS to CHENNAI.
It has an out-standing history and volumes of facts to be told which we cant find out in a day..
So here are a few facts about Chennai which I thought would be interesting to share with you..
Chennai, formerly known as Madras is the capital of Tamil Nadir.
It is one of the largest cities of India and has an astounding area of 70 sq km.
The city lies on the Coriander Coast of the Bay of Bengal and is often termed as the 'Gateway to the South India'.
Chennai was founded by the British and later developed into an urban center and naval base.
Today, it has become the administrative headquarter of the state.
The city houses a number of automobile industries and is the second largest exporter of Information technology (IT).

Population: 6.4 Million
Area: 174 sq. km
Languages Spoken: Tamil, English, Hindi, Urdu, Malayalam are widely spoken and understood.
Educational Institutes: Dr.Ambedkar Law University, SRMC Chennai, IIT Madras, LIBA Chennai etc
Main Attractions: Marina Beach, Snake Park, St. George Fort, Kapaleeshwar Temple,
Santhome Cathedral, National Art Gallery, etc.
